Province House in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is a Roman/Greek Revival masonry structure that was constructed in 1843. From September 1–7, 1864, Province House had an important role in helping Prince Edward Island host the Charlottetown Conference which resulted in Canadian Confederation. Province House was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1973 and houses Prince Edward Island's provincial legislature. In 2015, Ojdrovic Engineering, now Blackwell, in joint venture with Jokinen Engineering Services, was selected on a multidiscipline consultant team lead by DFS Architects to complete a phased multi-year comprehensive conservation and stabilization project of this important part of our country’s history. The first two phases to repair and stabilize the base building have been completed, and the project moves into a new fit-up phase which does not involve Blackwell. The exterior walls were consolidated. The original portico foundations were in very poor unstable condition. The engineering team designed an innovative approach to create a pre-stressed needle beam frame to hold the heavily loaded columns in place with no displacement, while the foundations below were replaced with new concrete foundations, one at a time.
*Completed as Ojdrovic Engineering.
