Part of the $63 million renewal of Laurentian University’s mid-20th century campus in Sudbury, Ontario, the ISLC round room was inspired by the form of a wigwam - the traditional building of the Indigenous peoples of the Sudbury area. This project used wood wherever possible from primary girders to wood deck and stud walls. Designing with wood allowed the consultant team to better embrace the curved geometry of the space and celebrate the beauty of natural building materials.
