Sited at the entrance to the French River Heritage Waterway, this visitors centre sits atop scoured granite, next to rocky outcrops and deeply-cut channels. Systems include exposed architectural concrete used in landscape retaining walls and massive sculptural columns; an engineered I-joist floor system; a roof of structural insulated panels carried by lateral-load resisting moment frames of glu-lam beams and columns, connected with tension bracing to create floor-to-ceiling trusses, permitting very long, clear spans. Winner of multiple architectural awards.
