The Toronto District School Board’s Alvin Curling Public School is a new 65,000 square foot building in Toronto that was completed in 2013. The two-storey school was built using steel framing supporting precast concrete floors. Moment resisting steel frames were used to provide lateral resistance to wind and earthquake loads. The building also included a two storey open concept library and a large multi-purpose gymnasium with feature skylight windows framed using long span open web steel joists. A key design feature of the school is the exposed steel framing, steel connections, and precast concrete floor slabs.
