Dubbed the Golden Nugget, this three-storey building is an addition to an existing two-storey converted furnace factory that now operates as commercial office space. The addition features a hybrid structural steel and mass timber structure. Nail laminated timber (NLT) panels make up the floors, roof structure, and staircases; all supported by steel beams and columns. The NLT was fabricated in panels and installed in 6-8 foot widths, making the construction process incredibly expedient and cost efficient. This project represents one of the first mass timber projects in Toronto to really take advantage of the advanced fabrication techniques now available in the province.
